Color Powder Coating
When you select an engine product or accessory from the Holley
Custom Shop to be color powder coated, it comes straight-
out-of-the-box brand new, never used.
During the powder coating process, painstaking efforts are made
to ensure that you receive only a top-quality job. In the end, colors
are vibrant and parts are ready to enter a lifetime of service.
Here's how important details are to the Custom Shop:
-
No other single source can offer you more. If you have the imagination we can help make it reality:
Metering blocks are masked off to protect passageways
from becoming clogged with any foreign substance.
-
Aluminum intake manifolds are bead-blasted with
a high-pressure stream of minute glass particles to remove
any surface, oxidation, leaving a smooth, bright shine.
-
Carbs destined to receive a candy color are first stripped
of their original dichromate finish and then placed in a
vibratory machine for further cleaning. After inspection,
microscopic color particles are statically charged to the
metal, producing a clean, uniform finish.
-
After being color powder-coated each part is placed in
an oven and heated to 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit for
10 minutes. Once the parts have been removed and allowed
to cool, they then possess the ability to withstand temps
of up to 900 degrees F. This makes them ideal for
service in active engines.
Powder coating is not just all show. There really is
a practical side to it, which is strength. This high gloss
finish helps protect against scuffs and scrapes. It's also
virtually impervious to petroleum products such as
brake fluid, battery acid, oil and gas, which comes right
off with a quick wipe of a shop towel.
Continued exposure to sunlight, too, won't even cause the
colors to fade or lose their luster. And above all, these
products are completely functional. That leaves you with
just one remaining task; Which colors should you choose?
The Holley Custom Shop uses
TigerDrylac© powder coat finishes.

Plating
Sometimes considered the crowning touch in design, plating offers you
the chance to complement or draw special attention to one particular
area on the product or the whole product itself.
Before products are plated, they undergo several
buffing and polishing stages to ensure optimum
surface smoothness. Extreme care is given with
respect to quality, which is maintained by first
disassembling the product, such as a carburetor,
and then plating the individual
pieces. Plating also renders a
surface impenetrable to many
of the substances in and around
an engine. So just what can be
plated? Almost anything under
the hood, and then some.
Like color powder coating, plating does not interfere with the original
design of a part. In fact, it helps by providing extra protection
against damage, thus extending the lifetime of the part. Whichever
plating you choose, it's sure to be a hit.
Mix 'N Match
Some of the best customized designs on engines are those
which use a combination of color powder coating and
plating. Plating is a natural complement to color
powder coating. In many instances, plating helps highlight
or define two colors that would otherwise be right up
along side each other. Color powder coating, plating or both.
